Dear friends,
During this uncertain time, I wanted to share with you how New Endeavors by Women (NEW) could potentially be impacted by decisions and actions taken at the federal level. Like many nonprofits around the country, NEW is able to do the work we do, in part, thanks to federal grants supporting the implementation of evidence-based best practices for the prevention of homelessness and housing insecurity. We are not alone in facing a future that could significantly impact our ability to provide critical housing and services to women and children, we know that you, our community, are standing with us.
About 70% of NEW’s funding comes from federal (HUD) and DC (DHS) funding sources. If this funding is reduced or eradicated, NEW would not be able to continue to provide vital housing and services to 150 women and children every year. Our clients would be faced with devastating choices, and the dedicated staff at NEW would be unable to continue to provide the support and services to the community they currently care for so well.
Your support right now can impact outcomes at NEW more than ever. Here are a few ways you can help NEW weather these times:
Commit to a monthly donation. Any gift goes a long way, but our monthly donors (our Partners for the Future) are what allows NEW the stability of an ensured amount every month that we can count on.
Donate your time. Host a small house party fundraiser or start a personalized fundraising campaign in honor of your birthday or some other meaningful milestone. You can share why NEW is meaningful to you, and ask your community to rally together to support NEW’s ongoing work. Our development team is available to help consult if you need guidance on how to facilitate something like this!
Donate gift cards. We’re always replenishing our cleaning and personal hygiene supply closets, and gift cards to places like Safeway, Giant, Walmart, or Amazon can go a long way to making that happen.
We are approaching these potential obstacles with a spirit of gratitude and hope—your support has carried NEW through challenges before, and keeps us encouraged in our dedication to the women and children we serve.
