Volunteer

At New Endeavors, we believe in the power of small. We look for volunteers interested in small acts that show our women their community cares. Because we aim to meet our women where they are, we don’t have a one-size-fits-all volunteer program. Rather, our volunteer program is individualized serving the women in the specific ways they need. We are always open to ideas from you, the greater DC community about ways you think you could help.

Celebrate NEW Birthdays with us!

Join our Birthday Celebration Program for clients at two of our housing programs located in the Shaw neighborhood at 611 N Street. NW.

What is the Birthday Celebration Program?
Whether you love celebrating your birthday every year or you dread the thought of turning another year older, birthdays are one of those rare opportunities to gather your friends and family in one place and celebrate. On the last Wednesday of every month at 7 pm, we will spotlight all the women’s birthdays in that month, with a cake, balloons and card and a small, fun goodie bag for each women celebrating her birthday.

Option 1 – You and your group bring the cake (or cupcakes), balloons, cards, birthday napkins, plates and goodie bags for the birthday women to 611 N Street., NW. We ask that you spend a minimum of $150 and a maximum of $200. (This ensures that the women can expect the same celebration every month.)

Option 2 – You and your group can donate 35 $10 gift cards to Target, Walmart or Visa, totaling $350 for the year. This will allow us to have a gift card for every woman’s birthday.

Lead a Workshop

Do you and your colleagues have an expertise that you could share? NEW uses volunteers to present workshops for our women and children on topics such as financial literacy, parenting, nutrition, civics and emotional wellness. As a volunteer, you could also organize game nights and fun activities for the women.

Tutor

Women in our transitional program are often interested in increasing their knowledge base with one-on-one tutoring in computers or GED prep.

Share your talents

What talent do you have to share? Yoga? Painting? Cooking? Meditation? Music? We look for regular and one-off volunteers to offer our women enrichment opportunities that entertain, sooth or excite! NEW case managers aim to build the NEW women up so that they can have the confidence to get their lives back on track. Enrichment activities help the women feel a sense of relief and normalcy.

Become a PenPal

Many of our women can feel isolated. Receiving a letter of encouragement from a volunteer who cares helps them feel like part of a bigger community, and one that cares. Case managers report that the women display their notes and letters of encouragement around their rooms and apartment. They await the mail for these little signs of hope from strangers.

Organize a donation drive

Organize your church, friends or civic organization to participate in a donation drive. Please email us below about our specific, current needs. We are serving 152 women — mothers, seniors, single women — and children. Their needs range from diapers and wipes, to toothpaste and toothbrushes to feminine products and sheets. These expenses add up.
