NEW names awardees for Moving Out of Homelessness 2026

New Endeavors by Women (NEW) is pleased to announce DC Councilmember Brooke Pinto as the recipient of NEW’s 2026 Advocacy Award at “Moving Out of Homelessness,” NEW’s annual fundraiser gala, which will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

NEW will also be honoring the other 2026 awardees: McKinsey & Co with the Volunteer Award, Iris Drayton-Spann (former NEW Board Chair; Stanton Chase DC) with the Mary Popit Partner in Caring Award, and LaTisha Edwards (Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox) with the New Light Alumna Award.

Councilmember Pinto serves as the Chairperson for the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, and in this role she has directly impacted the work NEW does through the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants and helped NEW provide housing and resources to unhoused women and their children who have been victims of a crime. The Councilmember also represents Ward 2, where two of NEW’s housing programs and main offices are located.

“I am proud of the work I have done on the Council to help lift our neighbors out of homelessness and into dignified and safe housing, and I remain committed to partnering with groups like New Endeavors by Women to continue this important and unfinished work. We must continue to invest in a comprehensive approach that connects our most vulnerable residents with permanent housing, career pathways, and vital District services especially as unhoused women face unacceptable levels of violence and safety risks, making the transition to stable and safe housing an urgent priority,” said Councilmember Pinto.

“Moving Out of Homelessness” is NEW’s annual fundraiser gala, and will be held on September 24^th, 2026 at the historic True Reformer Building on U Street. This event supports NEW and these awards highlight those who have championed NEW’s work, excelled at supporting NEW’s mission, and alumna who have demonstrated exceptional resilience and growth after their time at NEW. This year’s “Moving Out of Homelessness” gala will feature dinner, cocktails, and a silent auction featuring local businesses in the DC area.
